{"id":5099,"date":"2015-11-16T12:46:46","date_gmt":"2015-11-16T12:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/11\/16\/paris-remembered\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:51:58","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:51:58","slug":"paris-remembered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2015\/11\/16\/paris-remembered\/","title":{"rendered":"Paris Remembered"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Hundreds gather in Birmingham to remember terror victims in multi-faith vigil<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"311\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/multi-faith-vigil-paris-467x184.jpg\" width=\"447\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham city centre fell under a pall of silence as hundreds from the city poured into the centre to pay their respects to those who fell victim to the terror attacks in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The vigil\u2019s attendees came together from all walks of life; uniting to take a stand outside Birmingham Cathedral against the \u201cmurderous hatred and violence\u201d exhibited by the insurgents in France\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 200 people observed a minute\u2019s silence at the event, which was organised by charity worker Saidul Haque Saeed from Lozells.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A group of French students from Stafford University were also in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The Bishop of Birmingham David Urquhart who read a blessing at the event said: \u201cThe murder of innocent men, women and children in Paris on Friday is an act of murder and violence against the whole of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we stand in solidarity as we mourn those who lost their lives and those who were injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Showing Birmingham as a \u201ccity of the world\u201d, religious leaders from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh community within the city came to speak at the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>At the vigil, the atrocities in Paris were remembered alongside attacks in Beirut, Syria, Kenya and Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham Central Mosque\u2019s Makhdoom Ahmad Chishti informed the crowd that the terror attacks did not represent the religion of Islam.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis is the biggest human tragedy that has been done in the name of Islam.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut nowhere does Islam ever allow anybody to take another\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a Muslim I feel I am going through the feelings of those who have lost.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost people feel they can live together regardless of different beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why is has affected people, because we feel trust has been broken and we all need to work together to bring that trust back into the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Taz Ali, of the Stand Up to Racism group, said: \u201cIt was great to see people from all backgrounds coming together in solidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was absolutely devastated when I heard the news of the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were most concerned about the backlash, as people try to blame certain groups such as Muslims or refugees.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must walk together on this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds gather in Birmingham to remember terror victims in multi-faith vigil &#13;
