Fundraising luncheons raise \u00a316,000 towards the Birmingham Big Art Project <\/h3>\n

Friday 23rd October was an exciting date for the Big Art Project, as\u00a0Andy Street,\u00a0Managing Director of the\u00a0John Lewis\u00a0Partnership and Chairman of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP, attended a special fundraising lunch at the Hotel du Vin & Bistro.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n


\nAddressing a room full of nearly 100 corporate guests, Glyn Pitchford, Chairman of the Big Art Project, kicked off the event with an introductory speech.\u00a0Andy Street then captured his audience by discussing John Lewis’ arrival into Birmingham, how he has achieved great success at the John Lewis Partnership and the role Birmingham has to play in driving the UK’s economy.<\/p>\n


\nDuring Andy’s\u00a0insightful speech, guests enjoyed a two course lunch and glass of wine, all part of the fundraising effort to place Birmingham on the World map.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n


\nMeanwhile, on Tuesday 27th October, attendees at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham were treated to lunch and a whole lot of laughter, as special guest Jasper Carrott entertained the crowd.<\/p>\n


\nBoth events raised around \u00a33,000\u00a0towards\u00a0The Birmingham Big Art Project<\/a>, with John Lewis and Pertemps kindly donating a huge \u00a35,000 each.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The Birmingham Big Art Project is an initiative put in place to create a landmark piece of Public Art for Birmingham City Centre in 2018 that will help drive the visitor economy, bring Brummies together and produce some positive PR for the City.\u00a0 (Previous successful examples of such work are the Angel of the North near Newcastle and Cloudgate \/ ‘The Bean’ in Chicago)<\/p>\n

Profits from the lunch will help raise funds for the Birmingham Big Art Project, which is a registered charity looking to commission a major work of public art for Birmingham City Centre which will put Birmingham and this region on the world stage<\/p>\n
