{"id":4700,"date":"2010-05-21T13:18:41","date_gmt":"2010-05-21T13:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/05\/21\/fundraiser-takes-on-three-peaks\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:39:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:39:04","slug":"fundraiser-takes-on-three-peaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/05\/21\/fundraiser-takes-on-three-peaks\/","title":{"rendered":"Fundraiser takes on Three Peaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Doctor Khayyam Altaf attempts challenge for charity<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"232\" height=\"206\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/KhayyamAltaf_232x180.jpg\"\/>A MIDLANDS fundraiser and his friends are hoping to conquer the Three Peaks in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK next month.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Khayyam Altaf, 28, of Solihull will be attempting to scale the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours, alongside 7 of his closest friends.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The challenge will see them climb over 11,000 feet and walk over 26 miles as they take on the summits of Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The doctor decided to attempt the challenge while having chemotherapy himself last year after being diagnosed with cancer.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0Khayyam, said:\u00a0 \u201cAfter seeing how fantastic the treatment I received was and after being given such a good prognosis for a cancer that 30years ago would have almost certainly killed me, showed me how much cancer research has developed over the years and\u00a0 how vital continuing research is. A fellow patient gave me the idea during some of our inpatient stays after some of his friends had done it in his name. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cHe sadly didn\u2019t survive, which has made me and my team of friends and family even more determined to complete this challenge. Training has had to be squeezed in between busy working patterns and exams but we\u2019ve made sure we\u2019ve had time to visit the Malvern Hills regularly.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0Sajedah Patel Cancer Research UK\u2019s area volunteer manager for West Midlands, said: \u201cWe are absolutely delighted that Khayyam and his team has decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cThey have being doing lots of preparation and we\u2019re sure they are going to have an amazing experience.\u00a0 We can\u2019t thank them enough and want to wish them all the very best on the day.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0Sajedah added: \u201cCancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so.
