{"id":4686,"date":"2010-05-12T14:10:44","date_gmt":"2010-05-12T14:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/05\/12\/struck-off-doc-jailed-for-selling-slimming-pills\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:38:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:38:49","slug":"struck-off-doc-jailed-for-selling-slimming-pills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/05\/12\/struck-off-doc-jailed-for-selling-slimming-pills\/","title":{"rendered":"Struck-off Doc jailed for selling \u2018slimming pills\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Disgraced Sudesh Madan sentenced to 18 months<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"269\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/SudeshMadan_180x232.jpg\"\/>A DOCTOR who illegally sold slimming pills after she was struck off by the General Medical Council has been jailed today.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sudesh Madan, 57, from Romford led customers to believe she was a doctor after prescribing controversial Phentermine and Diethylpropion slimming pills at a number of \u2018Easy Slim\u2019 clinics across the country.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nIn reality she had been struck off by the General Medical Council in November 2001.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Madan was jailed for 18 months at St Albans Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to four counts of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and four counts of supplying a controlled drug.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>She was arrested in December 2009 by Hertfordshire Constabulary\u2019s Serious and Organised Crime Group following an unrelated offence in which a woman told officers she had taken slimming pills prescribed by Madan.\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Warrants were executed at her home and at clinics in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, Harlow, Essex, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and Barnsley, South Yorkshire. <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nPolice recovered 24,599 Phentermine and 13,269 Diethylpropion tablets and capsules during the searches.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Police said Madan led her patients to believe that she was a doctor and would prescribe them the pills after a consultation. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>A week\u2019s worth of pills, which could help suppress appetite, would typically cost \u00a320, police added. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Detective Inspector Ian Butler said Madan had been \u201cmotivated by greed\u201d.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cSudesh Madan ran a large scale operation across the country, callously posed as a doctor and, without any care for her patients, prescribed these slimming pills, which could have put them at risk,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWe believe her motivation was greed and we are determined to use our powers to remove any profits she made from her actions.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disgraced Sudesh Madan sentenced to 18 months A DOCTOR who illegally sold slimming pills after she was struck off by the General Medical Council has been jailed today. &#13;
