{"id":4592,"date":"2010-03-23T14:02:48","date_gmt":"2010-03-23T14:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/03\/23\/man-jailed-over-facebook-gun-pose\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:33:33","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:33:33","slug":"man-jailed-over-facebook-gun-pose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/03\/23\/man-jailed-over-facebook-gun-pose\/","title":{"rendered":"Man jailed over Facebook gun pose"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Communities are tackling gun crime, say police<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"266\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/MajidKhangun_180x232.jpg\"\/>A BIRMINGHAM man spotted posing with a gun on the Facebook social networking site has been jailed for five years.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Majid Khan, from Handsworth, was reported by a fellow user on the popular site after using an image of himself with a gun as his profile picture.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Officers from West Midlands Police responded to the complaint and managed to trace Khan to an address in Birmingham. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>They recovered a blank firing pistol which had been converted to fire 8mm bullets following a raid on his home. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Police said Khan, an IT worker, was not linked to any gangs but had an \u201cunhealthy interest in guns.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe 27-year-old pleaded guilty last month to possession of a firearm and was jailed for five years.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Det Chief Insp Steve Reed, from Thornhill Road Police Station, said: &#8220;We applaud the responsible and decisive action taken by the public.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Mr Khan had a good job and had no gang links. A gun has only one purpose and thanks to this member of the public we have managed to remove another dangerous weapon from our streets and brought to justice a man who appeared to have an unhealthy interest in firearms.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"266\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/MajidKhan_180x232.jpg\"\/>The conviction was the latest in a string of successes for police in the Handsworth, Perry Barr and Lozells areas of the city.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The community&#8217;s determination to rid the west and central areas of the city of guns has been hailed as the reason for the breakthroughs.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Since April last year police have recovered 67 handguns, shotguns and imitation firearms on the F3 operational command unit &#8211; an increase of 11 on the previous year.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Officers have been encouraged by the number of calls from people in the community determined to rid their area of guns.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;The Facebook user who reported Mr Khan to police was typical of the stance members of the public are taking around guns in their communities,\u201d Det Chief Insp Reed said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Communities are tackling gun crime, say police A BIRMINGHAM man spotted posing with a gun on the Facebook social networking site has been jailed for five years. &#13; Majid Khan, from Handsworth, was reported by a fellow user on the popular site after using an image of himself with a gun as his profile picture.
