{"id":4499,"date":"2010-03-04T13:25:15","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T13:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/03\/04\/car-crash-scam-man-who-made-46000-told-to-pay-back-1\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:30:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:30:04","slug":"car-crash-scam-man-who-made-46000-told-to-pay-back-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/03\/04\/car-crash-scam-man-who-made-46000-told-to-pay-back-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Car crash scam man who made \u00a346,000 told to pay back \u00a31"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Investigation into Mohammed Patel \u2018largest of its kind in the country\u2019<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"265\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/MohammedPatel_180x2321.jpg\"\/>A BOLTON man who masterminded a \u2018crash for cash\u2019 scam in which he netted \u00a346,000 has been ordered to pay backjust \u00a31.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mohammed Patel, 25, was jailed for four and a half years last year after admitting a three-year conspiracy to defraud insurance companies.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He was behind at least 93 forced collisions between 2005 and 2008. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Despite making \u00a346,000 from the scam he was ordered to pay back just \u00a31 after Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard he had no assets. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>His girlfriend, Ettorina Hay, 20, was ordered to pay back \u00a312,953.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Police described the investigation into Patel as one of the \u2018largest of its kind in the country\u2019.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Patel deliberately caused collisions for whichever client was willing to give up his car keys and insurance details. <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nHe would be paid a fee while the claimants demanded compensation for personal injury, courtesy cars and legal fees at the expense of the other party&#8217;s insurers.\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Patel used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle which included driving a Lincoln Navigator and Mercedes C 180, and enjoying numerous holidays abroad. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sergeant Mark Beales, from the Specialist Operations Branch, who has led the police investigation said: &#8220;Hay had her suspicions over Patel always having large sums of cash at his disposal, yet she took it regardless.
