{"id":4483,"date":"2010-02-11T15:36:10","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T15:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/02\/11\/flying-the-nest-and-taking-dad-with-you\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T12:29:50","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:29:50","slug":"flying-the-nest-and-taking-dad-with-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/02\/11\/flying-the-nest-and-taking-dad-with-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying the nest &#8211; and taking Dad with you"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3> University of Leicester Sociology student brings her father to university<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"287\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/AnuyaPai_180x232.jpg\"\/>WHILE most students flee to University to escape their parents \u2013 one Leicester student has flouted the tradition by taking her father along with her.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sociology student Anuya Pai, 21, and her father have lived in adjoining rooms in University Halls of Residence for the past three years. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Anuya\u2019s father, Dr Anand Pai, has suspended his medical career to accompany his daughter, who is a wheelchair user, to the University as her full-time support.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Anuya\u2019s parents originate from Mangalore in South India, but Anuya has lived in England all her life.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cI am happy to be here with Anuya as she pursues her education,\u201d dad Anand said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI know how important this is to her and I have always been willing to provide whatever support is necessary in order for my daughter to achieve her ambitions in life.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Whilst Anuya is in her lectures, Anand runs errands for her, such as fetching her library books for assignments. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIt was quite an unusual request \u2013 wanting to bring my Dad with me \u2013 but they didn\u2019t seem to see any problem with it,\u201d Anuya said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe accommodation has an adjoining room so if I need my Dad for anything in the middle of the night, I can call him easily. This wasn\u2019t available in other universities where carers are off-campus in other accommodation. But the University of Leicester has accommodated for him well, as well as for me.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The University is one of the country\u2019s leading academic institutions in supporting disabled students \u2013 and it\u2019s been given top marks by Anuya. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIf you need anything, the University is willing to change things.
