{"id":4176,"date":"2009-10-16T17:50:34","date_gmt":"2009-10-16T17:50:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/10\/16\/diwali-celebrated-at-downing-street\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:45:56","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:45:56","slug":"diwali-celebrated-at-downing-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/10\/16\/diwali-celebrated-at-downing-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Diwali celebrated at Downing Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>British Sikhs and Hindus prepare to mark festival of light<\/h3>\n<div><strong>THE Prime Minister lit a candle to mark Diwali at a Downing Street reception today.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Members of the Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist communities were invited to Number 10\u00a0to celebrate the occasion, known as the Festival of Lights,\u00a0which promotes messages of hope and togetherness.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The PM\u00a0said he looked forward to holding a Diwali reception every year and thanked the guests for their huge cultural and economic contribution to British life.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After his speech, the PM was presented with a garland and a model of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, popularly known as the Neasden Temple, in north London.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cAs people come together for the beginning of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, we all have the opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed, and to face the future with renewed hope &#8211; as the story of Rama and Sita and how good betters evil is brought alive once again,\u201d the PM said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cFrom Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, over the coming five days your homes will be filled with light and celebrations &#8211; and our thoughts will be with you all.
