{"id":4111,"date":"2009-10-06T13:47:11","date_gmt":"2009-10-06T13:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/10\/06\/bbc-back-dancer-over-paki-jibe\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:42:36","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:42:36","slug":"bbc-back-dancer-over-paki-jibe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/10\/06\/bbc-back-dancer-over-paki-jibe\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC back dancer over \u2018Paki\u2019 jibe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Strictly dancer apologies \u2018unreservedly\u2019 over comment<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"180\" height=\"280\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/BekeRouass_180x232.jpg\"\/>THE BBC has refused to sack Strictly Come Dancing dancer Anton Du Beke after he called partner Laila Rouass a \u2018Paki\u2019.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The dancer was alleged to have made the remark two weeks ago during a practice session with his on-screen partner, the News of the World reported. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The paper said Rouass, whose mother is Indian and father Moroccan, stormed out of rehearsals following the remark. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>It comes after an earlier incident in which Du Beke is alleged to have called Rouass a \u2018terrorist. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Despite a number of complaints and calls for the BBC to terminate his contract, the corporation backed the dancer after he issued an apology. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I must say immediately and categorically that I am not a racist, and that I do not use racist language,\u201d Du Beke said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cDuring the course of rehearsals Laila and I have exchanged a great deal of banter entirely in jest, and two weeks ago there was an occasion when this term was used between the two of us.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;There was no racist intent whatsoever but I accept that it is a term which causes offence and I regret my use of it, which was done without thought or consideration of how others would react. I apologise unreservedly for any offence my actions might have caused.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Actress Rouass also issued a statement saying she had accepted Du Beke\u2019s apology and that the couple had \u201cmoved on\u201d from the incident. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>A statement by the BBC added: &#8220;The BBC does not condone offensive language in the workplace.
