{"id":3878,"date":"2009-06-26T12:37:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-26T12:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/06\/26\/murder-hunt-after-girl-15-dies-in-arson-attack\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:36:44","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:36:44","slug":"murder-hunt-after-girl-15-dies-in-arson-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/06\/26\/murder-hunt-after-girl-15-dies-in-arson-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Murder hunt after girl, 15, dies in arson attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Family members still in critical condition, police say<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"297\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/MasudFamily_180x232.jpg\"\/>DETECTIVES have launched a murder inquiry after a 15-year-old girl lost her fight for life four days after a suspected arson attack on her home.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Teenager Maleha Masud suffered burns and smoke inhalation following the attack on her home in Tooting, South London. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>She was rescued from the house with her 21-year-old sister Nabiha and their younger brother Junaid, 16.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Paramedics had to resuscitate Nabiha moments after dragging her out of the house. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Their mother, Rubina Masud, 53, and her 22-year-old son Zain Masud, a City banker, jumped from a first-floor window to escape the blaze in Lessingham Avenue last Sunday morning.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Rubina was discharged from hospital while Nabiha, Junaid and Zain remain in critical condition.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Speaking following the devastation of losing her youngest daughter, Rubina said: \u201cI am devastated at what&#8217;s happened. I can&#8217;t believe anyone would do such a thing.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI am just really concerned for my children. Please pray for them.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain, who is leading the investigation, said: &#8220;A mother has had her youngest child taken from her in the most tragic circumstances. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Her three other children remain seriously ill in hospital. They were at the place where they should feel safest, in their family home. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Whoever has committed this act is not only a coward but is a dangerous individual who must be caught.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He added: &#8220;Hundreds of cyclists would have been in the area at the time making their way to the start point of the London to Brighton bike ride at Clapham Common. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I would appeal to people who may have seen anyone carrying a petrol can or similar container to come forward.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Two boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested in connection with the fire and bailed until August, pending further inquiries.
