{"id":3709,"date":"2009-02-16T12:59:51","date_gmt":"2009-02-16T12:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/02\/16\/search-begins-for-female-icons-of-asian-britain\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:32:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:32:49","slug":"search-begins-for-female-icons-of-asian-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/02\/16\/search-begins-for-female-icons-of-asian-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"Search begins for female icons of Asian Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Call for nominations for 10th Asian Women of Achievement Awards<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"211\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/AWA_232x180.jpg\"\/>THE search to find the most inspiring women in the United Kingdom has begun with the launch of the 10th Asian Women of Achievement Awards.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Founded and chaired by Indian born author and entrepreneur Pinky Lilani OBE \u2013 and held in association with Lloyds TSB \u2013 the awards celebrate the contribution that Asian women make to UK\u2019s business, public, cultural, and political sectors.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>An important event on the Asian community\u2019s calendar, the initiative has come to symbolise multi-cultural Britain.\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Previous accolades have been awarded to actresses Shaheen Khan and Nina Wadia, BBC newsreader Mishal Husain and world-leading academic Professor Xiangqian Jang. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Judges include human rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti CBE, also an award recipient, Dragons Den star James Caan, actress Meera Syal and Sir Nicholas Young, chief executive of the British Red Cross.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Founder Pinky Lilani said: \u201cWe founded these awards in 1999 to recognise the contribution that Asian women were making to British life \u2013 a celebration of the cultural and social enrichment they provide.
