{"id":3642,"date":"2009-01-15T17:57:20","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T17:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/01\/15\/counterfeit-criminal-ordered-to-pay-back-10000\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:31:09","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:31:09","slug":"counterfeit-criminal-ordered-to-pay-back-10000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/01\/15\/counterfeit-criminal-ordered-to-pay-back-10000\/","title":{"rendered":"Counterfeit criminal ordered to pay back \u00a310,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Sentence increase if money not repaid, says Judge<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"280\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/GulzameerAkram_180x232.jpg\"\/>A BLACKBURN man sentenced to three years imprisonment for making counterfeit notes has today been told by a judge he must pay back \u00a310,000 from the proceeds of his crime.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Gulzameer Akram, 29, of Hope Terrace, Blackburn was jailed for a variety of offences under the forgery and counterfeiting act last year. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Akram, who made nearly \u00a315,000 from his criminal activity, has been told he must pay back \u00a39,999.00 within six months or face a default prison sentence of six months and still owe the money on his release. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He pleaded guilty in court last year following his arrest in August 2007. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Akram was caught when police raided a Blackburn property and found a sophisticated set up for the production of counterfeit \u00a320 notes. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>A subsequent search of an industrial unit nearby uncovered equipment linked to the packaging at the previous property along with prints of counterfeit \u00a320 notes. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Detective Sgt Kathryn Cussans from Lancashire Constabulary said: \u201cThis was a large scale, sophisticated commercial production line including laptops, printers and a press. This activity was purely about financial gain and crime like this is a business for some people and they can\u2019t operate without resources and a steady cash flow.
