{"id":3580,"date":"2008-12-19T17:15:25","date_gmt":"2008-12-19T17:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/12\/19\/design-graduate-unites-islamic-fashion-and-faith\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:29:32","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:29:32","slug":"design-graduate-unites-islamic-fashion-and-faith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/12\/19\/design-graduate-unites-islamic-fashion-and-faith\/","title":{"rendered":"Design graduate unites Islamic fashion and faith"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Sarah Elenany \u2018frustrated\u2019 with Muslim \u2018fashion\u2019<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"214\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/SarahElenany_232x180.jpg\"\/>A LONDON fashion graduate has launched her own clothing line that unites urban chic with Islamic culture.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sarah Elenany, from Mitcham in Surrey, has developed her new label \u2018Elenany\u2019 by drawing inspiration from Islamic art and combining it with contemporary styling.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The 24-year-old launched the label after becoming frustrated with the lack of fashionable clothing that adhered to a Muslim woman\u2019s desire for modesty.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cAs a Muslim woman I have always found that the only options for me are the traditional Islamic clothes, or buying high-street brands in sizes too big so that I was covered. There was no compromise.\u201d explained Sarah. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI started to design and make my own clothes and other Muslims began complementing me on them. That was when I realised there is a real demand for Islamic clothing with a modern edge.\u201d <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After graduating from London South Bank University (LSBU) with a degree in Engineering Product Design, Sarah applied for a place on LSBU\u2019s Enterprise Associate Scheme which supports students with entrepreneurial flair. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After completing the course she received a formal academic qualification in the form of an MSc in Enterprise by Learning Contract.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>As an Enterprise Associate she successfully applied for \u00a340,000 from The Emerald Fund to create the new collection \u2013 which Sarah describes as \u201crelevant to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI have used bold shapes and vibrant colours, and I expect they will completely turn any preconceptions on their heads.
