{"id":3511,"date":"2008-12-16T15:45:01","date_gmt":"2008-12-16T15:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/12\/16\/forced-marriage-doctor-returns-to-the-uk\/"},"modified":"2008-12-16T15:45:01","modified_gmt":"2008-12-16T15:45:01","slug":"forced-marriage-doctor-returns-to-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/12\/16\/forced-marriage-doctor-returns-to-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Forced marriage\u2019 doctor returns to the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>\u2018I forgive my parents\u2019, says London doctor<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"268\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/HumayraAbedin_180x232.jpg\"\/>A LONDON doctor who was allegedly held captive by her parents in Bangladesh after refusing a marriage proposal has said she forgives them.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Dr Humayra Abedin landed in the UK this morning bringing an end to an international row over her right to return to the country. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>It was alleged she had been held captive by her parents since August for refusing to marry a man chosen by her family. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The High Court in London demanded her release under new rulings to prevent forced marriages. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>It was claimed Dr Abedin\u2019s parents fed her sedatives and admitted her to a hospital under false claims she was suffering a psychiatric illness.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Previously they had refused to bring the 32-year-old to Bangladeshi High court on five separate occasions, claiming she was mentally incapacitated.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>When she did finally arrive a judge ordered she be released into the custody of the British High Commission and flown back to the UK.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Speaking after her release Dr Abedin said she harboured no ill feelings towards her parents. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>She said: \u201cI&#8217;m relieved that I&#8217;m free, I&#8217;m happy. I just want to say thank you to all those who supported and helped me.\u00a0 I&#8217;m fine and I&#8217;m feeling happy. I don&#8217;t have any bad feelings towards them, they are my parents so I don&#8217;t have any bad feelings.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Justice Syed Mohmed Hossain who authorised Dr Abedin\u2019s release also revealed she had asked the court not to charge her parents over the matter. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Her ordeal came to light after she made contact with a friend in London asking for help. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018I forgive my parents\u2019, says London doctor A LONDON doctor who was allegedly held captive by her parents in Bangladesh after refusing a marriage proposal has said she forgives them. &#13; Dr Humayra Abedin landed in the UK this morning bringing an end to an international row over her right to return to the country.
