Family relieved as court jails men for life <\/b><\/p>\n
TWO men in India have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Leicester businessman.<\/strong> <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Fifty nine year old Mohan Singh Biring from Greenland Drive in Humberstone, Leicester was attacked by a group of men armed with iron bars while leaving a restaurant in the Punjab on August 18, 2005. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mr Biring had been staying in the area for three months whilst overseeing a house-building project.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Gurpreet Singh, 24, from the village of Virkan near Goraya and 25-year-old Jasbir Singh from the village of Moran Wali in the district of Hoshiarpur were found guilty of Mr Biring’s murder by a court in Jalandhar. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

They were both sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 rupees.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Six other men charged in connection with the murder were found not guilty.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mr Biring’s son Salinder Singh said the punishment of the two men had brought the family \u201csmall comfort\u201d.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

My father’s death has devastated our family and changed our lives forever\u201d, he said. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“He was a wonderful man who didn’t deserve to die in this horrific way and I still miss him every minute of every day. The sentencing of these two men to life imprisonment brings us some small comfort.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“We would like to thank the police in India and officers from Leicestershire Constabulary who helped get the case the court and supported my family throughout the ordeal.”<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Superintendent Steve Harrod from Leicestershire Constabulary said: “I am pleased that after three years and a very lengthy trial, these two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the role they played in the murder of Mr Biring.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“His family have understandably been devastated by his death but I hope that this outcome will bring them some form of comfort.”<\/div>\n
