{"id":3393,"date":"2008-08-17T16:17:38","date_gmt":"2008-08-17T16:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/08\/17\/man-jailed-in-driving-theory-test-scam\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:12:02","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:12:02","slug":"man-jailed-in-driving-theory-test-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/08\/17\/man-jailed-in-driving-theory-test-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"Man jailed in driving theory test scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\"><b>Two-year sentence for illegal immigrant<\/b><\/p>\n<div><strong>AN illegal immigrant who took driving theory tests for 30 people has been jailed for two years.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Palwinder Singh Johal, an illegal immigrant from India, charged \u00a3100 for every test he took, Oxford Crown Court was told. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He admitted attempting to obtain a driving test certificate by fraud, and asked for one count of conspiracy to commit fraud to be taken into consideration.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Johal was caught after officials noticed the same bank account was being used to pay for multiple tests. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Alex Durran, prosecuting, told Oxford Crown Court CCTV footage showed Johal taking tests at a number of test centres. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>When police searched his home they found \u00a39,000 in cash.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Johal admitted he agreed to the scheme to help pay back \u00a320,000 to the people who had helped him enter the UK illegally. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Jailing him Judge Anthony King said he had put the public at risk. He also recommended that Johal be deported back to India after his sentence. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Following the verdict The Driving Standards Agency warned Impersonators who sit driving tests for others that their actions will result in prosecution with tougher sentencing by the courts. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Andrew Rice, Head of Fraud &amp; Integrity for the Driving Standards Agency said: &#8220;Tackling impersonations is a key priority for the Agency as failing to identify offenders presents a significant danger to road safety.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;In this case Mr Johal undermined the driving test system, public safety and created a useful tool for ID Fraud.
