{"id":3330,"date":"2008-07-16T15:40:04","date_gmt":"2008-07-16T15:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/07\/16\/schools-to-help-tackle-forced-marriages\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T11:10:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T11:10:04","slug":"schools-to-help-tackle-forced-marriages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/07\/16\/schools-to-help-tackle-forced-marriages\/","title":{"rendered":"Schools to help tackle Forced Marriages"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\"><b>Information pack launched at London road show<\/b><\/p>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"303\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/Schoolshonourviolence_180x232.jpg\"\/>SCHOOLS across the country have been sent information packs on forced marriages, the government revealed today.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The information pack will include two posters, a leaflet and a discreet information card, which have been produced with the help of young people, schools, local authorities and support groups. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Children\u2019s Minister Kevin Brennan launched the new initiative at the Tackling Honour-based Violence Road Show in London today. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Brennan said it was important schools raised awareness of issues such as forced marriages.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cSchools have a crucial role to play in teaching children that forced marriage is wrong and telling children about the help and support that is available to victims and potential victims\u201d, he said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI have written to all schools stressing the stressing the importance of raising awareness of this issue, especially in these critical last weeks before the start of the summer holidays.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The new materials for schools have been posted to all secondary schools, local authorities and Local Safeguarding Children Boards, Mr Brennan added. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The London roadshow is the seventh in series of roadshows across the country organised by the Government to help tackle honour based violence.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Speaking at the roadshow, Justice Minister Bridget Prentice MP announced that the Forced Marriage Act would come into force on the 25<sup>th<\/sup> of November this year.\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>On top of current criminal protection, the Forced Marriage Act will provide civil remedies to protect victims or potential victims of forced marriage.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Justice Minister Bridget Prentice MP said: &#8216;The government has made great strides in tackling domestic violence and forced marriage.
