{"id":3166,"date":"2008-04-08T16:16:51","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T16:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/08\/asian-families-missing-out-on-disabled-benefits\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T10:54:01","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T10:54:01","slug":"asian-families-missing-out-on-disabled-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/04\/08\/asian-families-missing-out-on-disabled-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Asian families \u2018missing out\u2019 on disabled benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"264\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/SrabaniSen180x232.jpg\"\/>A LEADING charity which helps families of disabled children has claimed more than 60 per cent of Asian families are not claming benefits owed to them.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The charity estimates there are 470,000 families in the UK not claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to help meet their disabled child\u2019s additional needs<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Srabani Sen, Chief Executive of Contact a Family, said despite being among the most vulnerable and often poorest families, 62% of Asian parents looking after a disabled child\u00a0were not claiming Disability Living Allowance. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Research shows that Asian families of disabled children are much more disadvantaged in living circumstances than white families. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>However fewer Asian families receive DLA than white families.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Srabani Sen said: \u201cDLA can be a real help to families of disabled children who are more likely to be living in poverty. It is vital that families claim the benefits to which they have a right.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cDLA is not means tested and does not affect claims for other benefits.
