BASS\u00a0<\/span>Festival\u00a0<\/span>is back for October 2019 and this year, we’re shining a spotlight on <\/span>THE\u00a0<\/span>FUTURE<\/span>. Now in its 13th year, BASS <\/span>Festival\u00a0<\/span>has teamed u<\/span>p <\/span>with two of Birmingham’s brightest young creatives to curate the f<\/span>estival\u00a0<\/span>and leave a new legacy. This year’s curators, Aliyah Hasinah\u00a0and RTkal, will be showcasing exclusively black artists, creatives, speakers and performers from Birmingham, the UK and beyond. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Expect\u00a0<\/span>six days of live m<\/span>usic,\u00a0<\/span>workshops, p<\/span>anel <\/span>discussions, exhibitions and film screenings across some of Birmingham\u2019s h<\/span>idden\u00a0<\/span>v<\/span>enues, <\/span>as w<\/span>ell\u00a0<\/span>as an u<\/span>nveiling\u00a0<\/span>ceremony of our ‘Future Faces Of Birmingham’ m<\/span>ural.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Artists include Big Zeeks, Jamie Rodigan, <\/b><\/span>Mr Williamz, Jevon<\/span><\/b>, Randy <\/span><\/b>Valentine,<\/span><\/b><\/b>Cali P, 808INK,<\/span><\/b><\/b>Ana<\/span><\/b>\u00ef<\/span><\/b>s, Italo Skarcha, JAS CRW, Layfullstop, Bake Off’s Liam Charles And Many More.<\/span><\/b><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MEET THE CURATORS<\/span><\/p>\n

ALIYAH HASINAH & RTKAL<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Aliyah Hasinah is a young curator, writer and creative whose work centers on international black experiences. Her most recent work sees her researching decolonial curatorial methods and practice across the UK, America\u2019s, Caribbean and African Continent.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has curated projects such as Bald Black Girls with Artist Ruth Sutoy\u00e9, The Gallery is Many Things at Eastside Projects and The Past is Now at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Aliyah was also previously the Midlands Producer for Apples and Snakes and has worked with organisations including V&A, SBTV, BBC1XTRA, Channel 4 Random Acts and TEDx.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aliyah\u2019s work is published in Sabrina Mahfouz\u2019 \u2018The Things I Would Tell You: Muslim Women Write\u2019 and online. Aliyah is currently an organizational facilitator for Fearless Futures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RTkal is a young veteran of the Birmingham music scene. Inspired by his generation and his heritage, he has used music to spread positive vibes, unite and entertain audiences across the world as a performing artist, hyping up some of the biggest audiences in the world including performances at Glastonbury, Bestival, Lovebox, Outlook and so much more<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RTkal is one of the founders of IDST music studio and Beats and Barriers Academy who aim to upskill and equip young Birmingham based creatives with knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s festival will also take place at The MBC, a space created by RTkal and his team to shine a light on Birmingham’s creative industry and its rich pool of talent.<\/span><\/p>\n
