{"id":2955,"date":"2007-12-14T14:10:29","date_gmt":"2007-12-14T14:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/12\/14\/bid-to-reduce-infant-mortality\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T17:27:57","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T17:27:57","slug":"bid-to-reduce-infant-mortality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/12\/14\/bid-to-reduce-infant-mortality\/","title":{"rendered":"Bid to reduce infant mortality"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"212\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/AyeshaChoudhary232x180.jpg\"\/>A BIRMINGHAM health partnership is to reinforce its campaign to reduce infant mortality with a range of advice centres across the city.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Birmingham Health and Wellbeing Partnership has linked up with the Education, Development and Advisory Services (EDAS) Foundation to help with a range of children-related issues, as well as offering advice on a range of queries from housing and welfare benefits to debt and immigration in a number of areas where there is a high Asian population. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The project \u2013 financed by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund &#8211; was launched just a few weeks ago, but already it is proving to be very popular with families and mums-to-be.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Ayesha Choudhury, an advice worker at EDAS, will be visiting children\u2019s centres in a number of Asian populated areas including Sparkhill, Sparkbrook, Springfield, Handsworth and Saltley.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nShe said: \u201cThe Partnership\u2019s focus is on reducing infant mortality so we are working with families with children under five and pregnant women. It is early days yet but we are very pleased with the reaction to our service.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAyesha and her colleagues work with the Partnership\u2019s pregnancy outreach workers who offer support and health advice to pregnant women. She said: \u201cIf they find anyone who needs extra help regarding financial matters, the outreach workers refer them to us at the nearest children\u2019s centre. The outreach workers are very switched on to people\u2019s needs.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAyesha has worked in advice services for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience to the role. She said: \u201cPeople\u2019s needs differ from area to area and we are asked about everything from bankruptcy and debt to housing and welfare benefits. <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cWe are rushed off our feet but we are never too busy to talk to people.
