{"id":29452,"date":"2019-06-17T13:41:13","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T12:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=29452"},"modified":"2019-06-17T13:41:13","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T12:41:13","slug":"police-officer-seriously-hurt-in-birmingham-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2019\/06\/17\/police-officer-seriously-hurt-in-birmingham-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Police officer seriously hurt in Birmingham crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Police officer is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash in Birmingham yesterday morning. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The male officer was in a police car which crashed with a vehicle being pursued by other officers.<\/p>\n<p>He was not involved in the pursuit and suffered pelvic, leg and shoulder injuries when his police car collided with the Range Rover Discovery in Erdington.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow officers had attempted to stop the Range Rover on Wood End Road after it was spotted driving erratically.<\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police said a &#8220;brief pursuit&#8221; followed before the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the unnamed officer suffered pelvic, leg and shoulder injuries and remained in a serious but stable condition in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The force said his family were at his side.<\/p>\n<p>A 37-year-old-man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Inspector Tony Cole, force incident manager at West Midlands Police, said: \u201cAn investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of what took place this morning and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupport is being pro-actively offered to those who attended the scene and colleagues of the officer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The force\u2019s Professional Standards Department has been informed.<\/p>\n<p>Any witnesses or anyone with information has been asked to contact the force via Live Chat at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/west-midlands.police.uk\/\">west-midlands.police.uk<\/a>\u00a0between 8am and midnight, call 101 anytime, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Police officer is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash in Birmingham yesterday morning. \u00a0The male officer was in a police car which crashed with a vehicle being pursued by other officers.
