In the early hours of Monday 20 May two men left seriously injured after a car flipped on its roof were involved in a police chase.<\/p>\n
The two men were travelling and overturned in Oxhill Road, Handsworth.<\/p>\n
The Toyota Celica which is believed to have been stolen smashed into parked cars and a lamppost overturning the vehicle around 2am.<\/p>\n
Ambulance crews and ten firefighters arrived to the scene to help the men, who had both freed themselves from the wreckage.<\/p>\n
They were then rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.<\/p>\n
Police said the incident has been referred to their Professional Standards Department after a police chase over a suspected stolen car.<\/p>\n
A statement from West Midlands Police read: “A suspected stolen car being pursued by police was involved in a collision with parked vehicles in Oxhill Road, Handsworth, around 2.10am this morning (Monday 20 May).<\/p>\n
“Two men from the car have been taken to hospital with injuries which are serious but not life-threatening.<\/p>\n
“The incident has been referred to our Professional Standards Department as is routine in such matters.”<\/p>\n
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We were called to Oxhill Road at the junction of Avenue Road to reports of a single car RTC.\u00a0 Called by the police at 2.14am this morning.<\/p>\n
“We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a trauma merit doctor.<\/p>\n
