{"id":28943,"date":"2019-04-16T14:07:26","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=28943"},"modified":"2019-04-16T14:16:48","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:16:48","slug":"eight-year-old-honorary-starter-at-simplyhealth-great-birmingham-10k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/16\/eight-year-old-honorary-starter-at-simplyhealth-great-birmingham-10k\/","title":{"rendered":"Eight-Year-Old Honorary Starter at Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A young energetic little girl whose determination to run with a pink prosthetic blade will be an honorary starter at the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k.<\/p>\n<p>The 8-year-old Anupurba Saha was born with her umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her leg, cutting off the blood\u2019s circulation.<\/p>\n<p>The West Midlands Rehabilitaion Centre in Selly Oak, where the youngest receives regular assessment, physiotherapy and prosthetic support, have given her unique pink prosthetic sports blade.<\/p>\n<p>Anu became an internet star in 2017 when a video of her running on her blade in the playground captured the hearts of millions around the world.<\/p>\n<p>She has also been nominated for a Brummies Award, featured on BBC children\u2019s TV and taken part in the Simplyhealth Junior Great Birmingham Run at the iconic Alexander Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>To recognise her remarkable outlook on life Anu will be an Honorary Starter at next month\u2019s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k, which takes place on Sunday May 26.<\/p>\n<p>She has also inspired her dad Anirban to sign up for the 10k for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham Community Healthcare\u00a0(BCHC) is looking to harness the \u2018power of 10\u2019 to raise funds for all kinds of extras to improve patients\u2019 experience of care by assembling a 10-strong team of committed colleagues to tackle the 10k course.<\/p>\n<p>The centre is part of a wide set of specialist services provided for adults and children by BCHC at the Selly Oak facility and at nearby Moseley Hall Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Anu\u2019s dad Anirban said: \u201cAs a family, we have very personal experience of the quality of care provided at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnu has attended for several years for assessment, treatment and support with her prosthetics and I can honestly say the welcome is so warm and the team so caring that it almost feels like one big family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BCHC Charity\u00a0fundraising assistant Stacey Taylor added: \u201cWe\u2019re really looking forward to teaming up with Anu\u2019s family and taking on the challenge of tackling the 10k.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe money we raise will help fund a range of projects that will improve patients\u2019 experience of care and we\u2019re very grateful to everyone who supports us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k route will be a Bank Holiday Weekend celebration of Birmingham as it passes some of the most famous landmarks in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about the Birmingham Community Healthcare 10k team at\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhamcommunity.nhs.uk\/charity\">bhamcommunity.nhs.uk\/charity<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A young energetic little girl whose determination to run with a pink prosthetic blade will be an honorary starter at the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k.
