{"id":2894,"date":"2007-11-16T14:42:52","date_gmt":"2007-11-16T14:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/11\/16\/university-campaign-to-free-imran-khan\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T17:25:12","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T17:25:12","slug":"university-campaign-to-free-imran-khan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/11\/16\/university-campaign-to-free-imran-khan\/","title":{"rendered":"University campaign to free Imran Khan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"282\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/ImranKhan180x232.jpg\"\/>THE UNIVERSITY of Bradford has begun a campaign to free its Chancellor Imran Khan from imprisonment in Pakistan.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Former cricketer Khan is currently under house arrest in Pakistan after he was arrested and charged under anti-terrorism legislation after appearing at a rally at a University in Lahore. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He is one of hundreds of political prisoners arrested and detained in opposition to President Pervez Musharraf.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The University of Bradford\u2019s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Cleary, has written to the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to urge him to take action. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Professor Cleary said: \u201cImran is a responsible and lawful politician who has spent many years campaigning for justice and democracy in Pakistan.
