A <\/span><\/span>Derby<\/span><\/span> man was stabbed in his home by a <\/span><\/span>jealous drunk <\/span><\/span>because the victim put his arms around the <\/span><\/span>man\u2019s<\/span><\/span> partner.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jamil Clarke told the man \u201cI will kill you\u201d as he pulled out the \u201ccombat-style hunting knife\u201d and thrust it into his leg during a heated<\/span><\/span> argument in <\/span><\/span>Sinfin<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The victim <\/span><\/span>managed to make his way<\/span><\/span> out in to the street where passers-by called 999.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He told the police he had been attacked by the 24-year-old and officer went to the Shakespeare Street address where they found Clarke slumped on the landing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The victim suffered a two-inch wound while Clarke\u2019s partner, who was punched during the incident, suffered minor facial injuries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Clarke was jailed<\/span><\/span> for two years at <\/span><\/span>Derby Crown Court<\/span><\/span><\/a>, Recorder Michael Burrows said: \u201cThis offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can follow.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was quite persistent and involved the use of a weapon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was committed in drink and that is an aggravating feature.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI accept there was an element of provocation and goading.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said the offence took place in the early hours of January 30.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said the ambulance service called the police shortly before 4am as they were treating the victim in the street, having suffered a stab wound to the lower leg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Allen said: \u201cHe was able to give them an account of what happened explaining that he had been assaulted at an address in Shakespeare Street.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers went to that address which is where the defendant lives with his partner.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTwo children were also present, aged one and three, and the police found the defendant asleep on the floor at the top of the stairs.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Allen said Clarke\u2019s partner handed officers the \u201ccombat-style hunting knife\u201d used in the attack and they arrested the defendant.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Allen said: \u201cHe told them he had met the defendant a few weeks previous and had got to know his partner.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe said they had been drinking at the property and had run out of alcohol.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe told police that during the evening there had been some goading between the defendant and the victim and the two of them exchanged insults.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Allen said things spilled over and Clarke produced a knife which he began \u201cwaving around\u201d towards the victim.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said he then stabbed the victim once to the lower leg saying \u201cI am going to kill you\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said Clarke, who has \u201can extensive criminal record for violence\u201d also punched his partner to the face during the incident.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and common assault.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Justin <\/span><\/span>Ablott<\/span><\/span>, for Clarke, said his client was aware that the seriousness of the crime and his criminal record meant custody was the only option for him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThere was a confrontation, an argument, the victim had been putting his arms around the partner, none of which can justify what happened afterwards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
