A teenager has died after being stabbed near a park in Small Heath, Birmingham.<\/p>\n
The boy, aged 16, was found critically injured with stab wounds at Herbert Road in Small Heath, near Sara Park.<\/p>\n
He was pronounced dead at the scene at around 8pm last night.<\/p>\n
A 15-year-old boy was treated at the scene for minor injuries after being assaulted.<\/p>\n
A murder investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police in the aftermath of the stabbing.<\/p>\n
City councillor Zaheer Khan, whose Small Heath ward borders the scene, said the boy\u2019s death represented \u201canother victim of knife crime\u201d, and was a \u201ctragic loss\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast summer, we had a spate of stabbings and murders in Small Heath,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonally, since those incidents, I have written to police several times about a lack of visible police presence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel that lack of police resources means people believe they can do whatever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n
A cordon has been put in place as police enquiries are carried out in the area.<\/p>\n
Yasmin Akhtar, a 44-year-old support worker who lives locally and has a 10-year-old son, said she feared for his safety.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI have a son and I really fear what is going to happen to him.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast week, we had that young lad who died at Joseph Chamberlain (College), and another stabbing up the road. It\u2019s a joke.<\/p>\n
\u201cIs it safe where we\u2019re living? It\u2019s such a shame.\u201d<\/p>\n
Detective Chief Inspector Edward Foster, from the force\u2019s homicide team, said: “The investigation is in its early stages and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in Herbert Road or Sara Park at just before 8pm last night.<\/p>\n
\u201cA teenager has sadly lost his life and another was assaulted, we are working hard to establish the circumstances around what happened.”<\/p>\n
