{"id":2826,"date":"2007-10-30T17:00:25","date_gmt":"2007-10-30T17:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/10\/30\/arpan-brums-language-boffin\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T17:22:09","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T17:22:09","slug":"arpan-brums-language-boffin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/10\/30\/arpan-brums-language-boffin\/","title":{"rendered":"Arpan \u2013 Brum\u2019s language boffin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"255\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/ArpanSharma180x232.jpg\"\/>HE\u2019S not even old enough to leave the country on his own, but one ten-year-old schoolboy from Birmingham has stunned teachers with his knowledge of eleven languages.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Arpan Sharma\u2019s talents have been described as \u201cextraordinary\u201d by teachers at the \u00a0Blue Coat&#8217;s School in Edgbaston, Birmingham. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The youngster, who speaks fluent Hindi after learning it from his parents, remarkably taught himself five of his eleven languages by using multi-media CD-ROMS. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Aside from English and Hindi, Arpan can speak French, Spanish, German and Italian \u2013 all of which he learnt at his fee-paying school. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>In addition he also speaks Thai, Swahili, Polish, Chinese Mandarin and is currently studying Lugandan \u2013 the language of Uganda. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The ten-year-old, from Oldbury, said he hoped to become a surgeon so he could travel the world and work in different countries. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Learning these languages is my favourite part of school along with music\u201d, he said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I have known how to speak and understand Hindi since I was very little because both my mum and dad speak it. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;French, Spanish, German and Italian, I learnt in school and I studied languages that were a bit more difficult by using CD-ROMs on the school computers. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Learning Swahili was probably one of the biggest challenges I&#8217;ve faced and Mandarin Chinese was hard too. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;But the teachers have been really helpful and it&#8217;s thanks to them that I&#8217;ve managed to learn so many languages. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I want to carry on studying foreign languages at secondary school next year but I haven&#8217;t decided which ones yet. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;When I&#8217;m an adult, though, I want to be a surgeon who can work in all the hospitals of the world and speak the language of the country I&#8217;m in.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Deputy Headmaster Richard Lynn said Arpan was the \u201cmost talented pupil linguistically\u201d the school have ever had. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;We are extremely proud of him and sincerely hope he continues with his talents when he goes to secondary school,&#8221;
