{"id":28246,"date":"2019-01-28T16:15:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T16:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=28246"},"modified":"2019-01-28T16:15:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-28T16:15:52","slug":"large-cannabis-factory-uncovered-in-derelict-tower-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/28\/large-cannabis-factory-uncovered-in-derelict-tower-block\/","title":{"rendered":"Large cannabis factory uncovered in derelict tower block"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police found a \u2018sophisticated\u2019 operation.<\/p>\n<p>A huge cannabis factory covering three floors of a derelict tower block scheduled for demolition has been found in the middle of a housing estate.<\/p>\n<p>Police had to get through an internal steel-barred door reinforced with a metal grille, and an industrial sized padlock to then discover the large cannabis factory which they have said to be a \u201csophisticated\u201d operation.<\/p>\n<p>Inside police officers found cannabis plants with an estimated street value of \u00a3500,000 along with living areas and sources of food for those carrying out the operation.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-storey building block, Warstone Tower, in Bromford Drive, Birmingham, has been earmarked by the city council for demolition and has been empty for a while.<\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police\u2019s cannabis team found plants growing on the 16<sup>th<\/sup> floor but equipment sprawled across the 15<sup>th<\/sup> and 17<sup>th<\/sup> floors, covering 31 rooms in total.<\/p>\n<p>Officers arrived at the building block after a member of the public called police on January 24<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Five men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Majid Mahmood, who represents the ward, said the tower had been due to be pulled down after a neighbouring derelict block had been successfully demolished, last year.<\/p>\n<p>The work is part of a housing redevelopment plan for the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police found a \u2018sophisticated\u2019 operation.
