A sale\nassistant at Merestones Petrol Station in Acocks Green<\/a>, has spoken how he jumped into\naction to chase off two men<\/a> in an attempted carjacking with his broomstick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Risalat Hussain, 35-year-old who ran out to\nhelp a woman who was ambushed and dragged from her Mercedes at a petrol station\naround 7am on Sunday morning, January 6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hussain spotted two thugs rushing towards the\nhelpless woman and he potentially risked his job by saving her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr\nHussain told BirminghamLive<\/a>: “I was behind\nthe till and I spotted what was going on. I shouted to my colleague in the\noffice, ‘Come outside! Quick! Quick!’ and we both ran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We just ran at them saying, ‘Get off her\nnow!’ and grabbed broomsticks which were next to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is against company policy to do what\nwe did and we’re told we’re not allowed to help if there’s a crime but, for me,\nthis person’s life is more important than my job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s just in me to help people and,\nbefore, I’ve stopped people fighting. I say, ‘Don’t fight, don’t fight’.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The petrol station worker said that the hooded\nduo had their faces covered and targeted the victim’s 68-plate white Mercedes\nA-Class, priced at \u00a340,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They were white men aged between 25 and\n38, I’d say. They had their faces covered and I didn’t see any weapons. They\nran off down Fox Hollies Road and we made sure the woman who was on the floor\nwas OK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We got her to come into the shop and we\ngave her some water. She was clearly shaken up. I’d say she was in her 30s\nmaybe. We waited until her husband arrived and, as I finished making a\ncomplaint to the police on the phone, he thanked me for helping her.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said:\n“Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a car from Merestones\nService Station on Fox Hollies Road, Acocks Green on Sunday 6 January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A woman had filled up her Mercedes A\nclass car at around 7.10am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She went into the garage to pay for the\nfuel and as she returned to her car, she was approached by two men, with\ncovered faces, who demanded her car keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They grabbed at the woman\u2019s bag and\ncaused her to fall over. The woman screamed and a member or staff ran out of\nthe garage shop, at which point, the two assailants ran off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The woman was did not suffer any\ninjuries. No-one has been arrested and police enquiries are ongoing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Majid Mahmood (Lab, Bromford, Hodge\nHill) posted on his Facebook page: “This happened in Acocks Green over the\nweekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If\nyou have any information of the perpetrators please get in touch with  Acocks Green Police.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Let’s work together so these vile\nindividuals are brought to justice. In the meantime please be careful when\nfilling up at petrol stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
