{"id":28020,"date":"2019-01-10T15:58:31","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T15:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=28020"},"modified":"2019-01-10T15:58:33","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T15:58:33","slug":"man-accused-of-murder-of-grandmother-riasat-bi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/10\/man-accused-of-murder-of-grandmother-riasat-bi\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Accused Of Murder Of Grandmother Riasat Bi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A man on trial accused\nof murdering Small Heath grandmother Riasat Bi allegedly searched\nBirminghamLive for updates on the incident whilst being on the run from the\npolice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madni Ahmed, of\nCavendish Street, Stoke-on-Trent, is on trial at Birmingham Crown Court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riasat Bi died of\nmultiple stab wounds after a frenzied attack at her Aubrey Road home last July.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her grandson,\nFaizaan Javed, was left paralysed after being stabbed repeatedly in the back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After his arrest his phone showed searches for the\nBirminghamLive Facebook page and WhatsApp messages from friends with links to\narticles on the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court heard Ahmed, aged 20, allegedly used his brother&#8217;s ID to\npurchase a haul of knives and machetes online in the days leading up to the\nincident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 26, he attempted to purchase items from online knife retailer\nBarrington Swords, this time using his brother Siam Ahmed&#8217;s provisional driving\nlicence as identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the purchases was a rambo survival knife which is believed to\nhave been the murder weapon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The blade was recovered from a rooftop gutter just yards from the murder\nscene, after drones were set to scour for evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weapon was later examined, DNA of the accused was found to be\npresent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecutor Michael Burrows told the court today: &#8220;A text message\nfrom BA Blades to Madni Ahmed&#8217;s phone shows they were unable to verify the\npurchasers age and asked for further verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;An order was then placed with Barrington Swords on June 26\nfor a cold steel Bowie machete, cold steel slant-tipped machete, ninja survival\nseven-inch and a rambo survival knife &#8211; total price \u00a396.43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;An image was sent back showing the defendant&#8217;s brothers&#8217;\nprovisional driving licence and the purchase was approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Messages sent from Madni Ahmed&#8217;s phone ask for &#8216;notification of\ndelivery&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Records show the delivery was made to Cavendish Street on July\n6.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jurors were told Ahmed left the Stoke-on-Trent home he shared with his\nparents and siblings, checking in to BH Residence &#8211; a Birmingham hostel &#8211; for\nseveral days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He left the hostel on the morning of July 12 and was described by the\nreceptionist as being &#8216;stressed&#8217; and &#8216;pacing the floor&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Burrows added: &#8220;Someone sent a WhatsApp message with a link to a\nBirmingham Mail article about a live incident in Small Heath park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court was also read text messages sent to the device, following the\nincident and before Ahmed&#8217;s arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One read: &#8220;Your dad is upset, he is crying. Answer the phone.\nPlease ring us &#8211; stop being selfish. What have you done? Answer the\nphone.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evidence was also heard from Neil Wilson, forensic scientist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Wilson said he had examined blood found on the weapon dumped in\nrooftop guttering near the scene of the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;Samples of blood were taken from 12 different areas on\nthe knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;DNA from at least three different people was found on the knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Madni Ahmed&#8217;s DNA was found on the knife.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case continues. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man on trial accused of murdering Small Heath grandmother Riasat Bi allegedly searched BirminghamLive for updates on the incident whilst being on the run from the police.
