{"id":27964,"date":"2019-01-07T11:08:07","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T11:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=27964"},"modified":"2019-01-07T11:15:14","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T11:15:14","slug":"taxi-drives-onto-pavement-in-sparkhill-blocking-local-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/07\/taxi-drives-onto-pavement-in-sparkhill-blocking-local-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"Taxi drives onto pavement in Sparkhill blocking local residents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A bright blue taxi was spotted parked diagonally across Nansen Road, in Sparkhill, on Thursday and Friday mornings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latest in chaotic parking in Sparkhill, East Birmingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council registered cab had been left with the front of the cab just touching the front wall of a house and the back end sticking out in the middle of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pedestrians and residents must steer\u00a0wheelie bins\u00a0and face either squeezing past the taxi\u2019s bumper or head into the path of oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mothers with pushchairs, and those using\nwalking frames or wheelchair users have no option but to go into the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\npasser-by said: \u201cIt\u2019s atrocious. It\u2019s not acceptable that the driver has left\nit straddling over the pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTaxi\ndrivers are meant to be the knights of the road. Pushchairs can\u2019t get past. I\nunderstand there are parking issues but that\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another car is seen in footage parked in\nan identical manner along the terraced road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncouncil was informed of the thoughtless parking but said there are no parking\nrestrictions such as yellow lines on Nansen Road and complaints need to be\nforwarded to the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr\nAli, 36, said: \u201cI was walking down the road just before 10am to visit my mother\nand I saw the taxi parked like that. It was very bad. I had to go into the\nroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople\ncouldn\u2019t walk on the pavement and that\u2019s why I sent the picture to Birmingham\nLive and Birmingham City Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\nshould respect the rules of the road.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesman from TC Cars LTD said the\ndriver \u201cwill be dealt with accordingly along with our disciplinary procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\u201cThis is not the expectations we have for our drivers whether they are at work\nor not, they are still representing our company\u201d, they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terrible parking is a hot topic for West Midlands Police who have led several enforcement drives to tackle drivers who abandon their cars on double yellow lines, crossings, junctions and pavements and endangering the lives of pedestrians and other road users.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bright blue taxi was spotted parked diagonally across Nansen Road, in Sparkhill, on Thursday and Friday mornings.
