Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Birmingham\nand Wolverhampton a spruce-up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big-hearted members of the Ahmadiyya\nMuslim Youth Association (AMYA) &#8211; some as young as seven, put on hi-vis jackets\nand cleaned several town centres around the West Midlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The huge street clean campaign kicked\noff early on New Year&#8217;s Day and, while most people enjoyed a day off,\nyoungsters helped to clean the streets after the festivities on New Year&#8217;s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young Muslims swept, scrubbed and gave town centres including\nBirmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Halesowen a huge spring clean ahead the\nnew year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atta Khan, regional youth coordinator\nfor the Midlands, said: &#8220;We\u2019ve been doing the New Year\u2019s clean-up for many\nyears now, and each year we see more and more members coming to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In Islam, \u2018Cleanliness is Part of\nFaith\u2019, so there\u2019s no better way to serve our faith and our country, there\u2019s no\nbetter way for us to start the new year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMYA is hoping to exceed its efforts\nfrom 2018, where they held over 300 community clean-ups and planted 20,000\ntrees across the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Year\u2019s activities will help to\nkick-start 2019 with hundreds of volunteer projects planned throughout the\nyear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMYA Vice President, Adam Walker,\nexplains why young Muslims are holding the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;Islam urges every Muslim\nto partake in charitable giving, community service, and promote cleanliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;AMYA has and continues to instil\nyoung people with a sense of civic responsibility, and a desire to promote\nharmony within our local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The New Year\u2019s Day Clean-up\ncampaign ensures Muslim youth can be active members of society and serve their\ncommunities and the environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim was that the initiative would\nnot only instil the values of volunteering and community service, but also\nsupport local councils by alleviating costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Selfless volunteers had pounded the streets during a widespread litter pick &#8211; to help cash-strapped councils.
