{"id":27914,"date":"2018-12-17T12:25:46","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T12:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=27914"},"modified":"2018-12-17T12:32:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-17T12:32:01","slug":"top-talent-inspires-rising-stars-at-world-music-conference-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/17\/top-talent-inspires-rising-stars-at-world-music-conference-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Top talent inspires rising stars at World Music Conference 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This year\u2019s World Music Conference has once again been hailed a huge success.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-day festival, which attracted 34 speakers, over 200 primary school pupils from\nacross the West Midlands and representatives from over 12 countries, was organised by the\nBritish Carnatic Choir and hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The core objective of this year\u2019s event was to raise awareness of the importance and\nbenefits of introducing music education to children at an early age.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first day featured Chinese dancers, guitarist Pally Matharu and the National Polish Folk\nChoir. Chief guest Mr CB Patel, editor and publisher of Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar,\nalong with Dr Paul Sabapathy CVO CBE and Dr Aman Puri, former West Midlands Lord\nLieutenant and Consul General of India in Birmingham, respectively, presented awards to\nthe following for their \u201coutstanding\u201d contributions to Arts &amp; Culture :\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\uf0b7 \u00a0David Burbidge, Chairman, Coventry City of Culture\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\uf0b7 \u00a0Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Roberts, Principal Director of Music, British Army\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\uf0b7 \u00a0Sue Williamson, Regional Director, Library &amp; Museums, Arts Council England\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe second day featured panel discussions, each led by an eminent artist. The lead moderator was Dr Kevin Stannard, musician, composer and distinguished teacher. Topics included: Creativity &amp; Curriculum; Building Communities through Music &amp; Arts; Music &amp;Mental Health; Music &amp; Humanities; Music &amp; Religion; Music &amp; its influence in the work place.\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThere were performances from artists representing several nationalities and communities.The list included, Indian, Chinese, Pakistani, lish, Romanian, Indonesian, African \u2013 to list buta handful.\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe evening programme featured the popular British Carnatic Choir with participation from students from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Certificates were presented to\t<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>participants and awards were bestowed upon the following individuals for their\n\u201cremarkable role in promoting British Values through Arts &amp; Culture\u201d.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\uf0b7 \u00a0John Crabtree OBE, Lord Lieutenant for West Midlands\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\uf0b7 \u00a0King Gurcharan Mall, world-renowned dhol player\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDelegates were encouraged to sign a life-size \u2018World Music Conference\u2019 card which will bedelivered to HM The Queen by the event chief organiser, Dr Chithra Ramakrishnan FRSA.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cWe are hugely proud of HM The Queen and all that she does for our nation but also for theCommonwealth. This card is a token of our gesture to her for embracing the sheer culturaldiversity that we have here in Great Britain\u201d, said Dr Ramakrishnan FRSA. <\/li><li>Andy Street CBE, Mayor for West Midlands, had this to say:\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cThe festival is unique in its aim of bringing together artists, academics and music educatorsfrom across Africa, Europe, the USA and India.\u201d\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe World Music Conference, launched in 2017, aims to promote music from all over theworld, focusing particularly on young children, providing a platform for them to showcasetheir talents, but to learn from each other too.\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe event was once again supported by several organisations and individuals, promoting allprofessional sectors, in particular he Cultural and Creative Industries.
