{"id":27523,"date":"2018-10-16T11:04:16","date_gmt":"2018-10-16T10:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=27523"},"modified":"2018-10-16T11:04:16","modified_gmt":"2018-10-16T10:04:16","slug":"500k-family-home-faces-demolition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2018\/10\/16\/500k-family-home-faces-demolition\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3500k Family Home Faces Demolition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A family home of seven that recently had a new build is set to be demolished for being 75cm too tall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The property, on the edge of Stoke-on-Trent, owned by owner Asif Naseem was supposed to only be two storeys but has dormer windows in the eaves and a roof higher than agreed before the work was done.<\/p>\n<p>Stoke-on-Trent City Council says the builders failed to dig the foundations deep enough.<\/p>\n<p>The only hope for him to save his home is if another retrospective application currently going through the planning process wins approval.<\/p>\n<p>The authority has deferred making a decision for six months to see if a compromise could be reached.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the planning committee have\u00a0voted in favour of enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Naseem&#8217;s wife, Faranzana Asif, told a council meeting: \u201cIt\u2019s not fair. It\u2019s worrying us. I don\u2019t know what will happen now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the residents have also shown their support behind the family and are opposing demolition.<\/p>\n<p>One resident who lives opposite the property in Star and Garter Road, said: \u201cI hope it doesn\u2019t come to demolition. When they started building it, it ripped my house to pieces. It was horrendous the whole house shook. It shouldn\u2019t be that big, but Asif says it\u2019s because the groundworks aren\u2019t deep enough.<\/p>\n<p>Another resident added: \u201cThey\u2019ve gone over and above the planning regulations. I think for the people it overlooks, it\u2019s bigger than it should have been, and I imagine that\u2019s quite intrusive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But six councillors decided not to grant another reprieve.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor David Evans said: \u201cPeople want a solution, but I do think we have deferred enforcement action already and I wasn\u2019t happy about that then. We should take action. I\u2019m not happy with the deferral.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you build a building without permission you are risking any investment you spend. No authority should be pressured into giving permission because it has already been built.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Ross Irving said: \u201cI second the proposal to move to enforcement. We\u2019ve been here twice before, and I said it was the last chance saloon then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are left with a problem that\u2019s got to be sorted and I\u2019m in favour of taking enforcement action. We have been here for months and months on end and we need to send a message to sort this out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Naseem has previously told StokeonTrentLive he had spent \u00a3500,000 on the building project since plans for the development were approved in 2016.
