Most events aim to get &#8216;bigger and better&#8217; with every passing year. The Kings Heath Street Festival returned this year in a smaller appearance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But one of south Birmingham&#8217;s much-loved events has had to start from scratch again after it didn&#8217;t even happen last year.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing security costs were blamed for its\u00a0cancellation in 2017\u00a0just days before the festival was due to be held.<\/p>\n<p>And so the sight of York Road packed with celebrators was in danger of becoming a distant memory.<\/p>\n<p>But the award-winning\u00a0Hare and Hounds\u00a0live entertainment pub was as eventful as ever.<\/p>\n<p>The High Street end of York Road promised music from Skylark\u2019s Choir to Flares, Young Culture, Dirty Old Folkers, The Bandidos, and Independent Country with a CircusMASH takeover at the far end of the road including afternoon workshops.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the Caterers that showcased, included traditional Indian street food from Full Of Chaat, Plus, award-winning Chinese steamed buns from Dim Sum SU and Kings Heath\u2019s own Esme&#8217;s Eats serving up Caribbean Food. Also The Bournville Waffle Company serving ice cream and waffles.<\/p>\n<p>Town centre manager Martin Mullaney said: &#8220;We never wanted to cancel the event last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s great for the area and loved by all who attend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The festival is a day of celebration of everything that makes Kings Heath such a great area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of hard work has gone in to bringing this much-loved event back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope it will once again become a regular event for the area.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Kings Heath\u00a0Street Festival came back with a bang &#8211; although a smaller one than previously.
