{"id":2682,"date":"2007-08-09T12:41:37","date_gmt":"2007-08-09T12:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/08\/09\/dispatches-proves-why-muslims-distrust-media\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T17:13:30","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T17:13:30","slug":"dispatches-proves-why-muslims-distrust-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/08\/09\/dispatches-proves-why-muslims-distrust-media\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Dispatches\u2019 proves why Muslim&#8217;s distrust media"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"271\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/MCBBariDispatches.jpg\"\/>THE CHANNEL 4 Dispatches row proves why Muslims distrust the media, the Muslim Council of Britain has said.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Speaking a day after West Midlands Police revealed they had lodged a formal complaint over the way programme makers \u2018spliced\u2019 speeches together to make them appear more \u2018extremist\u2019 in the programme \u2018Undercover Mosque\u2019 , the Muslim Council of Britain accused the channel of\u00a0\u2018stigmatising\u2019 the Muslim community. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: \u201cThe joint statement from the CPS\/West midlands Police will justifiably reinforce the distrust with which many Muslims regard sections of our media.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIt is of course right that hate speech must be vigorously combated. Documentary makers have an important responsibility, however, to do their research properly and carefully identify those who are actually inciting hatred. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThey must take great care to avoid unfairly stigmatising whole institutions and groups of people.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cIt is deeply regrettable that Hardcash Productions, who were the producers of the Undercover Mosque documentary appear to have resorted to some underhand methods in order to engage in hatemongering against some mainstream UK Muslim institutions, including the London Islamic Cultural Centre, the UK Islamic Mission and the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith&#8221;.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nHis view was also supported by the Ramadhan Foundation.
