\"\"A WOMAN who tortured her lover\u2019s little boy to death has been told to expect up to 14 years in jail.<\/strong> <\/div>\n

Sumairia Parveen tortured 17-month-old Tahla Ikram so horrifically a doctor who examined the youngster likened his injuries to that of a car accident victim, Southwark Crown Court heard<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Parveen was found guilty alongside her lover Abid Ikram following the five-week trial into the death of Tahla in September 2006. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The youngster was burnt with a cigarette and had his leg repeatedly sliced open until his tendons and veins were exposed.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The duo, both from Ealing, west London, were cleared of murder but convicted of causing or allowing the child\u2019s death. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The court heard young Tahla was taken to hospital six times in the 20 days preceding his death yet doctors failed to spot the abuse. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Tahla had been taken away from Ikram in March 2006 after the couple left him alone in the house while they went out.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

He was placed with foster carers but just months later was returned to Ikram. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Parveen, who has left her abusive husband for Ikram, felt Tahla threatened her relationship with his father, the court heard. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

She subjected the tot to a horrendous period of abuse as his father stood by and did nothing. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

He suffered a broken thigh and shin and three fractured ribs. A post-mortem found Tahla died from marrow fat deposits in his lungs, caused by broken ribs, which starved his brain of oxygen. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\"\"During the trial Parveen denied causing harm to Tahla saying she loved him \u201cas if he was my own.\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

But it took the jury just six hours over two days to unanimously decide she was lying. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Both were cleared of murder but found guilty of “causing or allowing the child’s death”.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Ikram was also found guilty of perverting the course of justice for sending his lover to Pakistan after his son’s death. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Both were told to expect terms of up to 14 years when they will be sentenced in September. <\/div>\n
