{"id":26443,"date":"2018-05-15T11:34:05","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T10:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=26443"},"modified":"2018-05-15T11:34:05","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T10:34:05","slug":"british-asians-team-up-to-fast-for-a-day-in-support-of-barnardos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/15\/british-asians-team-up-to-fast-for-a-day-in-support-of-barnardos\/","title":{"rendered":"British Asians team up to \u2018Fast for a Day\u2019 in support of Barnardo\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British Asian celebrities have teamed up with Barnardo\u2019s to \u2018Fast For A Day&#8230;for Barnardo\u2019s\u2019 to help raise awareness of services that support some of the UK\u2019s most vulnerable children and young people.<\/p>\n<p>Fast For A Day will see some of the UK\u2019s most popular British Asians, both Muslim and non-Muslim, sharing the experience of fasting on social media over Ramadan which starts this week.<\/p>\n<p>Celebs taking part include\u00a0Bhangra singer Juggy D,\u00a0\u2018Bend it like Beckham\u2019 actor Ameet Chana, R&amp;B singer Arjun,\u00a0Punjabi singer Tasha Tah, TV presenter Suzi Mann and radio presenter Anushka Arora.<\/p>\n<p>Barnardo\u2019s is committed to reaching out to more diverse communities. #FastForADay is part of Barnardo\u2019s \u2018Time for Family\u2019 campaign which aims to raise awareness of Barnardo\u2019s work within the Asian community, including support for disabled children.<\/p>\n<p>Barnardo\u2019s wide\u00a0range of\u00a0disability support services include the Cygnet Service that works with South Asian families in Bradford providing\u00a0an award-winning parenting support programme for\u00a0children on the autistic spectrum, and\u00a0the \u2018Apna \u2018Centre\u2019\u00a0in Glasgow which\u00a0supports hundreds of disabled BAME\u00a0children and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Fast For A Day will showcase the commitment and dedication that the UK\u2019s Muslim community observe during Ramadan as well as their\u00a0strong focus on charity and giving in this holy\u00a0month. British Muslims in the UK\u00a0give over \u00a3100M to charity\u00a0during Ramadan alone and they\u00a0are the most generous religious group in the UK (ICM poll).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnardo\u2019s Chief Executive<\/strong>, <strong>Javed Khan said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFast For A Day will showcase what the month of Ramadan means for hundreds of thousands of families, households and individuals throughout the UK this month. It\u2019s fantastic to see popular British Asians of all faiths come together to support Barnardo\u2019s during Ramadan and our Time For Family campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Non-Muslim members of the Asian community are being invited to fast* and also share their experiences online.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Actor Ameet Chana<\/strong> <strong>said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRamadan is a unique month and a special time for British Muslims all over the country.
