{"id":2627,"date":"2007-07-09T15:32:49","date_gmt":"2007-07-09T15:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/07\/09\/indian-murder-suspect-will-face-trial-in-britain\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T16:56:39","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:56:39","slug":"indian-murder-suspect-will-face-trial-in-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/07\/09\/indian-murder-suspect-will-face-trial-in-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian murder suspect will face trial in Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"210\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"235\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/ManinderSinghHannahFoster'Extradition'.jpg\"\/>AN INDIAN man wanted in connection with the rape and murder of a British teenager will face trial in Britain after failing in an appeal against extradition.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Maninder Pal Singh Kohli was arrested in India in 2004 over the rape and murder of 17-year-old Hannah Foster. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The teenager was murdered after a night out in Southampton in 2003.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Kholi, who claims he is innocent, left the UK two days after the teenager\u2019s murder but was arrested in India. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>An order for his extradition was recommended last month by a lower court of the Delhi High Court but it was challenged by Mr Kholi\u2019s lawyers who claimed there was no direct evidence connecting him to the crime.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Kohli&#8217;s lawyer, Charanjeet Singh Bakshi, had said &#8220;the other evidence used to link him with the murder &#8211; DNA samples and the route taken by him to flee Britain &#8211; had not been satisfactorily explained&#8221;. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>But the appeal was rejected and Britain\u2019s Hampshire Police said they would now work closely with the Crown Prosecution service and Foreign and Commonwealth Office to \u201cexpedite [the] process\u201d. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>New of the extradition will come as a relief for Trevor and Hilary Foster \u2013 parents of Hannah \u2013 who have travelled to India three times to appeal for Mr Kholi\u2019s extradition. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Hannah\u2019s body was found two days after she disappeared near her home in March 2003. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Kohli, who worked as a driver in Britain, left the country for India after he was identified as the prime suspect. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He was arrested in the eastern state of West Bengal, near the border with Nepal, more than a year later.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AN INDIAN man wanted in connection with the rape and murder of a British teenager will face trial in Britain after failing in an appeal against extradition. &#13; Maninder Pal Singh Kohli was arrested in India in 2004 over the rape and murder of 17-year-old Hannah Foster. &#13; The teenager was murdered after a night [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11753,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2627","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2627","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2627"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2627\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11753"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2627"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2627"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2627"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
