Boxer Amir khan has had a number of trainers since turning professional in 2005. He started with Oliver Harrison in Bolton, then moved on to Miami-based Cuban Jorge Rubio, before relocating to Los Angeles to work with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym.<\/p>\n
After splitting with Roach, Khan was based in Hayward, California, training alongside\u00a0Virgil Hunter.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month Hunter was hospitalised and Khan, has had to look elsewhere ahead of his first fight in two years.<\/p>\n
On March 17, a statement issued by Team Hunter explained: \u201cVirgil Hunter experienced a health scare this week and was hospitalised. We are happy to report that he is recovering and getting stronger every day. We appreciate everyone\u2019s thoughts and prayers and request that his privacy be respected while he recovers. There will not be any further statements made at this time as we allow him to heal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Khan is to return to ring on April 21 and has officially made the move to trainer Joe Goossen. He is best known as the trainer for Diego Corrales in that thrilling 2005 fight against Jose Luis Castillo, but has also worked with the likes of Michael Nunn, Joel Casamayor, and others.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to Virgil Hunter\u2019s health issues I had to make a decision to bring someone else in before my fight with Phil Lo Greco, which is only a few weeks away,\u201d Khan told\u00a0Boxing News<\/em>. \u201cVirgil is a great trainer and I\u2019m hoping he makes a swift recovery.
