{"id":26075,"date":"2018-03-27T13:08:49","date_gmt":"2018-03-27T12:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=26075"},"modified":"2018-03-27T13:09:23","modified_gmt":"2018-03-27T12:09:23","slug":"usman-waheed-jailed-for-raping-teenager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2018\/03\/27\/usman-waheed-jailed-for-raping-teenager\/","title":{"rendered":"Usman Waheed Jailed for raping Teenager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Jaguar Land Rover worker jailed after raping a student who came to Birmingham for a night out.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard the attack had affected every aspect of the 17-year-old victim\u2019s life who had suffered nightmares and panic attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Usman Waheed, 24, of Gough Road, Sparkhill, had previously been convicted of rape following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.<\/p>\n<p>He was sentenced to six-and-a-half years and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.<\/p>\n<p>The victim and a female friend, also 17, travelled from Preston on December 11 2016 and using fake identity they had tried to get into the Rainbow Club in Digbeth but was refused entry.<\/p>\n<p>The two girls had then became stranded because they could not get a train home until the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>Timothy Harrington, prosecuting said: \u201cThe victim was particularly vulnerable in the circumstances she found herself in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was just 17 in a strange city with nowhere to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She had then met Waheed, who was with others, and he had then driven her to a secluded industrial estate near Birmingham airport where he raped her in the back of the car.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement the victim said what happened had a \u201cmassive effect\u201d on her life.<\/p>\n<p>It had made her feel more vulnerable and had impacted on her social life and her academic studies.<\/p>\n<p>In passing sentence Judge Roderick Henderson said: \u201cShe came with a friend from the North East to Birmingham for a night out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were not as mature and sophisticated as they thought they were and they were not able to get in the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey crossed the path of you and some of your friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judge said he had taken into account the \u201cunusually extreme effect\u201d of the incident on her and that she had been \u201cutterly devastated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on \u201cYou knew that she was lost and far from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI accept there was some consensual activity but there came a point when she did not want it to go on further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was crystal clear to you but you carried on and raped her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trevor Meegan, defending, said it was not a case in which Waheed, who was the sole bread winner in his family, had deliberately lured the victim to the industrial estate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Jaguar Land Rover worker jailed after raping a student who came to Birmingham for a night out.
