A proud Brummie celebrity chef is rearing to open a new city centre restaurant in spring.<\/p>\n
The award-winning chef Aktar Islam said it will be \u201cone of Birmingham\u2019s iconic restaurants\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old was chef director at Lasan which opened in the Jewellery Quarter in 2002 became the first\u00a0Indian restaurant\u00a0to be selected as \u2018Best Local Restaurant\u2019 by Gordon Ramsey on Channel 4\u2019s The F Word.<\/p>\n
Aktar said \u201cAs a proud Brummie, I\u2019ve always championed my city\u2019s food scene and now is my chance to continue to give back with something I hope people will feel is very special. The place is set to be one of Birmingham\u2019s iconic restaurants. Watch this space.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aktar announced he was stepping down from his role as chef director of Lasan Group in September last year, to pursue other opportunities in the industry.<\/p>\n
Aktar added: \u201cTen years ago, I started a very exciting journey with my fellow Brummie chefs and friends –\u00a0Luke Tipping, Glynn Purnell, Brad Carter, David Colcombe\u00a0and Andy Waters – where we all worked tirelessly to change the world\u2019s opinion of Birmingham and to make it a centre of culinary excellence, which I feel we achieved.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor various reasons, there has been a break in that journey. Not anymore. I\u2019m going back to doing what I love, cooking and being in the kitchen, where I belong.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to reveal too much just yet but the focus is most definitely on true gastronomy and culinary exploration.\u201d<\/p>\n
