{"id":2494,"date":"2007-03-13T16:36:16","date_gmt":"2007-03-13T16:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/03\/13\/non-muslim-women-invited-to-central-mosque\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T16:47:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:47:18","slug":"non-muslim-women-invited-to-central-mosque","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2007\/03\/13\/non-muslim-women-invited-to-central-mosque\/","title":{"rendered":"Non-Muslim women invited to Central Mosque"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong>A MUSLIM women\u2019s organisation based in Birmingham is to hold a conference inviting women from other religions to find out what life is really like for Muslim women in the city.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Shahadah organisation will host the special conference at the city\u2019s Birmingham Central Mosque on March 17. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The event will give non-Muslim women the opportunity to question \u201cmisconceptions\u201d about the lives and roles of Muslim women, the organisation said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Recent terrorism raids in the city were criticized by a number of community figures who accused the media of placing \u201cnegative\u201d focus on the Muslim community, and a spokesperson for Shahadah said the event was a perfect way to help build stronger community relations between the city\u2019s different communities. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWe feel that the Muslim woman has been subject to extensive negative publicity and this has given rise to many misconceptions about her status\u201d, the spokesperson said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cMuch recent controversy has focused on the supposed patriarchal nature of<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Islam and the woman\u2019s lack of voice within the Muslim community and its place<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>of worship, the Mosque.
