{"id":24156,"date":"2017-09-20T16:59:30","date_gmt":"2017-09-20T15:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=24156"},"modified":"2017-09-20T16:59:30","modified_gmt":"2017-09-20T15:59:30","slug":"pakistan-batsman-suspended-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2017\/09\/20\/pakistan-batsman-suspended-five-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan Batsman Suspended For Five Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pakistan batsman Khalid Latif has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years following a spot-fixing inquiry.<\/h2>\n<p>A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tribunal handed down the punishment to the 31-year-old after finding Latif guilty of all charges at a hearing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a long-running investigation into corruption in the Twenty20 Pakistan Super League.<\/p>\n<p>Latif was found guilty of fixing or taking a bribe to underperform, failing to disclose corrupt approaches and soliciting players into corrupt acts, and was fined one million Pakistan rupees (\u00a37,020).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are cases you don&#8217;t feel happy winning, because it&#8217;s unfortunate to see a player being banned. But he is responsible for tarnishing his own career, and all fixing allegations against him have been proved,\u201d said PCB&#8217;s lawyer Taffazul Rizvi.<\/p>\n<p>Sharjeel Khan, fellow Pakistani batsman, was also banned\u00a0for five years last month, with two and a half years of his ban suspended.<\/p>\n<p>After they failed to report suspicious approaches, Mohammad Nawaz\u00a0and Mohammad Irfan\u00a0have also been sanctioned as part of the inquiry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan batsman Khalid Latif has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years following a spot-fixing inquiry.
