{"id":2313,"date":"2006-10-06T14:14:50","date_gmt":"2006-10-06T14:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2006\/10\/06\/teenager-guilty-of-girls-fire-death\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T16:37:20","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:37:20","slug":"teenager-guilty-of-girls-fire-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2006\/10\/06\/teenager-guilty-of-girls-fire-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager guilty of girl\u2019s fire death"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"152\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"203\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/tuzzioWeb1.jpg\"\/>A TEENAGER who set fire to a family home killing a six-year-old girl has been found guilty of manslaughter and arson at Birmingham Crown Court.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>18-year-old Daryl Tuzzio <em>(pictured right),<\/em> from Perry Barr, Birmingham deliberately targeted the family home in revenge against 21-year-old Abdul Hamid who was dating his co-accused\u2019s 15-year-old sister. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter and arson. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>His co-accused Hussain Ahmed, 26, of Harborne, who was accused of plotting the fire, was acquitted by the jury. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Six-year-old Alisha Begum died in hospital a day after the attack on her family home. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>While other family members managed to escape their blazing home by jumping out a bedroom window, Alisha remained in the house. She was found by firefighters and rushed to hospital. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The trial, which lasted for two weeks, heard the arson attack was an \u2018honour\u2019 related killing against 21-year-old Abdul Hamid. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Prosecutors claimed Hussain Ahmed plotted the attack after disapproving of his sisters\u2019 relationship with Alisha\u2019s older brother Abdul.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Despite warnings to put an end to the relationship, Alisha\u2019s brother refused.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The arson attack, prosecutor Adrian Redgrave claimed was a way to warn Mr Hamid into ending the relationship.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>24 hours before the arson attack, Mr Hamid had received a threatening phone call, the court was told. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Alisha, the youngest of 12 children was asleep in her bunk bed when a masked man burst through the front door and poured petrol in the hallway before lighting a match, Mr Redgrave said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The blaze quickly spread up the stairs and family members were forced to jump out of windows to escape the raging fire.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Alisha was found by firefighters but died at Birmingham\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital the next day. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Det Sgt Stuart Kidd, of West Midlands Police, said after the conviction: \u201cWest Midlands police would like to say that this investigation has been a result of a vindictive and malicious crime that resulted in the tragic death of a young girl and a number of other members of the family suffering horrendous injuries.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cMuch has been said and made of so-called &#8216;honour&#8217; in circumstances surrounding this case. A right-thinking person will find no honour in what has occurred \u2013 only grief, tragedy and shame.
