{"id":2303,"date":"2006-09-14T17:02:36","date_gmt":"2006-09-14T17:02:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/14\/mcb-chief-slams-the-sunday-telegraph\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T16:37:15","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:37:15","slug":"mcb-chief-slams-the-sunday-telegraph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2006\/09\/14\/mcb-chief-slams-the-sunday-telegraph\/","title":{"rendered":"MCB Chief slams the Sunday Telegraph"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"155\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/muhammad%20abdul%20bariWeb1.jpg\"\/>A LEADING Muslim figure has slammed the Sunday Telegraph newspaper for \u201cmisrepresenting\u201d his words in an interview published on the front page of the paper.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari <em>(pictured right)<\/em>, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said the paper was guilty of \u201cunfair distortion\u201d when it published its story under the headline \u201cMuslim leader warns of 2 million British Terrorists\u201d.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Bari, who became the newly elected head of the organization in June this year, was quoted as saying the country could face up to 2 million terrorists if the police and media continued to \u201cdemonise\u201d British Muslims.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThere are a few bad apples in the Muslim community who are doing terrible acts and we want to root them out\u201d, Dr Bari was quoted as saying in the 10 September issue of the paper.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cBut some police officers and sections of the media are demonising Muslims, treating them as if they\u2019re all terrorists \u2013 and that encourages other people to do the same.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIf that demonisation continues, then Britain will have to deal with two million Muslim terrorists \u2013 700,000 of them in London\u201d.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Muslim Council of Britain said it was \u201cshocked\u201d and \u201cdismayed\u201d at the paper for \u201cmisrepresent[ing]\u201d Dr Bari\u2019s words.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>In a statement posted on their website, Dr Bari said: \u201c&#8221;I was interviewed on Thursday by the Sunday Telegraph&#8217;s David Harrison. I am quoted in his story today as allegedly saying that if the demonisation of British Muslims in the media continues then &#8216;Britain will have to deal with 2 million Muslim terrorists, 700,000 in London.&#8217; These are categorically not my words.
