{"id":2295,"date":"2006-09-07T16:46:26","date_gmt":"2006-09-07T16:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/07\/police-station-arson-attacker-jailed\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T16:37:11","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:37:11","slug":"police-station-arson-attacker-jailed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2006\/09\/07\/police-station-arson-attacker-jailed\/","title":{"rendered":"Police station arson attacker jailed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div><strong>A 28-year-old man who threw two petrol bombs into a Leicestershire police station earlier this year has been jailed for 10 years.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mohammed Atif Kamal, was jailed at Leicester Crown Court after pleading guilty to the attack on the Beaumont Leys police station.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Leciester Crown Court was told Kamal brought \u00a33 worth of petrol on 3 July at a Tesco garage opposite the police station.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After filling two empty wine bottles with petrol he walked to the police station\u00a0where he lit the first bottle and threw it inside. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He then lit the second bottle and repeated his actions. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Two members of the public and a member of police staff were injured in the resulting fireball and were taken to hospital.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Officers from the station arrested Kamal nearby minutes after the explosion. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Superintendent Rob Nixon of the West Area said: &#8220;The motive for the incident is not clear but there is no evidence that the attack was religiously or politically motivated. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Kamal was apprehended within minutes of the explosion thanks to the swift action of officers from the police station. He now faces a lengthy custodial sentence and eventual deportation.
