{"id":19927,"date":"2017-01-06T10:42:57","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T10:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=19927"},"modified":"2017-01-06T10:47:34","modified_gmt":"2017-01-06T10:47:34","slug":"queens-honours-list-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2017\/01\/06\/queens-honours-list-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Queens Honours List 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"dropcap\" style=\"background-color: #339966; color: #000000;\">T<\/span>he Queen released the 2017 Honors list in time for the New Year, to recognize key individuals across the UK.<br \/>\n1197 people will be receiving the prestigious award, with a number of them being British Asians from all different sectors such as art, finance, education and business.<br \/>\nThe titles given range from Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and Medallist of the Order of the British Empire.<br \/>\nTitles are awarded to people who have contributed incredible work in society and for the public.<br \/>\nBritish Indian Professor Shankar Balasubramanian was the only Asian to receive a <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"irc_mi ihVXHO8bttJQ-pQOPx8XEepE alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/1\/1b\/Shankar_Balasubramanian,_Herchel_Smith_Professor_of_Medicinal_Chemistry.jpg\/220px-Shankar_Balasubramanian,_Herchel_Smith_Professor_of_Medicinal_Chemistry.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for Shankar Balasubramanian\" width=\"220\" height=\"273\" \/>Knighthood, being recognized for his work with Next Generation DNA sequencing, which had been noted as being the most transformational advance in biology and medicine for decades.<br \/>\nThe rise of Asians being recognized is a step in the right direction as it dispels the myth of Britain being racist and divided.<br \/>\nWe\u2019d like to congratulate all of this year\u2019s Honourees and hope to see many more Asians in the list in the forthcoming years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Knighthoods (Kt)<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Professor Shankar BALASUBRAMANIAN Herchel Smith Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Cambridge.
