Team GB now places ninth in the medals leader board thanks to four bronzes in cycling, shooting, gymnastics and judo. A historic victory occurred in Diving with Jack Laugher and Chris Mears winning gold for Britain in men’s synchronised 3m springboard.<\/p>\n
Joe Clarke won a gold in kayaking, while there were bronzes for Chris Froome, Steven Scott, Sally Conway and Max Whitlock. Whitlock\u2019s win for men’s all-around gymnastics was a first in 108 years for Great Britain.<\/p>\n
Team GB now holds three gold, three silver and six bronze.<\/p>\n
The victories have not stopped for other countries either with Michael Phelps winning a 22nd Olympic title while Australian Kyle Chalmers won the men\u2019s 100m freestyle.<\/p>\n
Diving duo Laugher and Mears scored a total of 454.32 against China, 23-year-old Mears was particularly emotional having had life changing surgery to remove a spleen ruptured when diving in 2009.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still can\u2019t really believe that it’s happened,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve come from death\u2019s door to here. I’m pretty proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
The divers were in tears when their victory was confirmed with Laugher saying, \u201cWith the wind and the rain, it felt like English weather. We embraced it and we came out with a medal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Laugher also had much to prove since a dismal loss in diving during the 2012 Olympics, he was 17 at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like I had a point to prove here,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I was so emotional at the end. It was a reflection of how hard we have worked since London.<\/p>\n
