{"id":15337,"date":"2016-06-27T14:58:25","date_gmt":"2016-06-27T13:58:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=15337"},"modified":"2016-06-27T14:59:12","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T13:59:12","slug":"take-back-the-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2016\/06\/27\/take-back-the-streets\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Back the Streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bikers were reported to have joined forces in Birmingham as an unauthorised gathering that was planned for the giant Star City complex was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>The Take Back the Streets event was listed for Sunday but was dismissed with short notice.<\/p>\n<p>The police in the area warned that action would be taken against anyone who participates in the event near the Nechells venue.<\/p>\n<p>The cancellation announcement was made on the Birmingham Police Facebook page which said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been advised that the \u2018Take Back the Streets\u2019 event at Star City that was planned for today has been cancelled. Officers are in the area and action will be taken against anyone acting in an anti-social manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They also added: \u201cIf you are planning to attend the \u2018Take Back the Streets\u2019 event at Star City on Sunday (26<sup>th<\/sup> June) please be aware that the organiser has not been given permission by the venue or any other interested parties for this event to go ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The police informed the public that the organiser had not been permitted by Star City to go ahead with the event.<\/p>\n<p>However drivers around Birmingham reported that a large number of bikers were riding across Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>Writing on Facebook, Maryam Iqbal said: \u201cIt\u2019s not been cancelled because I\u2019ve seen at least 20 of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beth Ryder added: \u201cIs that what I have just seen at Bordesley Middleway?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were hundreds of off road bikes, bikes and quad bikes with drivers wearing masks and some without helmets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(They were) being aggressive to drivers when the lights had changed to red and they still continued to ride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDangerous and intimidating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Darren Murdock Harris posted. \u201cWhether its been cancelled or not lots of them still turned out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No comment was presented by Star City.<\/p>\n<p>Appalling footage at the funeral of motorcyclist Chris \u2018Stig\u2019 Clarke, who died in a crash, displayed bikers doing wheelies and a variety of other stunts outside St Alphege Church in Solihull town centre.<\/p>\n<p>Police were left fuming due to the officers shown at the scene in the footage.<\/p>\n<p>Another dreadful footage was taken in East Birmingham of a wheelie rampage with a number of scrambler bikers sprinting through the streets, on the incorrect side of the road and over pavements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bikers were reported to have joined forces in Birmingham as an unauthorised gathering that was planned for the giant Star City complex was cancelled.
